AOS Local Field Trips Program

The Alabama Ornithological Society offers a program of free field trips throughout the year across our area (initially in Alabama, later northwest Florida). These will be led by some of the most experienced birders in the region volunteering their time to share their knowledge and love of birds. Everyone seven years old and above is encouraged to join these trips regardless of birding experience (please do not bring pets). Unless other items are specified in the trip description, what you need to join us are a pair of binoculars, clothes and shoes appropriate for outdoor activities at that season, drinks/snacks, and curiosity about birds and nature.

The destinations, type, and length of the field trips will be at the discretion of the leaders. Trip descriptions will be posted to an online calendar, some far in advance but others nearer the date. When events are posted there generally will also be a notification on Facebook and other social media. However, checking the calendar regularly best ensures you know what is available. For most of these events no advance sign-up will be needed; if required this will be stated in the trip description with instructions. Events will be at no cost for participants (excepting a special activity such as a boat trip).

Those planning to join a trip are strongly advised to recheck the calendar listing after 6 p.m. the prior evening to verify the trip has not been unexpectantly modified or cancelled (if so the calendar icon should be a different color but please verify details regardless).
